The World’s first permanently moored Floating Storage & Regassification Unit (FSRU) was installed in August 2013, and utilises a bow-mounted LMC column turret. LMC was contracted by Saipem of Italy to design the turret for use on a converted Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) carrier with a capacity of 137,000m3.

The column turret structure is based on that for the Farwah FPSO, with modifications to allow for the configuration of the LNG vessel. The design includes large capacity gas swivels with flexibility for optical and electrical paths. The FSRU is an LNG receiving terminal located in open sea 12 miles offshore Livorno (Tuscany) in a water depth of 120m. The mooring is designed for an environmental condition including 8.8m waves, and comprises a 6 x 1 mooring configuration.

The system is Classed by RINA.
